"Pay It Forward - Handmade Gift Exchange" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-18 06:10:27

Thanks to the amazing and very sweet jewelry artist who posted about this in the etsy forums. I have joined in her Pay it Forward (PIF) and now it's my turn to post about this wonderful opportunity to give to others! I'm sure some of you have seen this floating around in blogland but if not here's how it works:I will send a lovely handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment here requesting to join this PIF (pay it forward) exchange. I'm not sure what that gift will be yet- it will be a surprise! The only thing you have to do in return is to pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog. Once you sign up. I'll email you to let you know that you are one of the three. Then copy and paste the above paragraph on your blog and three other lucky people will be recipients of your handmade work. Let's keep this going and share the handmade love and spread some holiday cheer - Pay it Forward!Oh and you can of course still comment without volunteering for this :) I'm feeling the guilt here. I took the handmade pledge and then this weekend bought buttons and some cards that weren't handmade. Bad Bejeweled! Everything else this month has either been crafted by me or a fellow creative indie soul so it's OK right? :) I've been looking for vintage style pear cards with a French feel for forever. And the buttons? Well just look at them - especially those fleur de lis ones that look like hammered pewter. Still working on writing that tag - I'm up to number 8! Almost done :) Blogging today has been a bit like surfacing for air. It has been CRAZY busy around here! Orders post office client meetings more post office a birthday party to plan yet more post office crafting home maintenance issues and my favorite.... buying our first artificial tree and getting the kids all excited.. then dismantling and repacking it 20 minutes later to go back to the store. Because.... it had lead warnings on it!!Did you know that almost all artificial trees have toxic lead in them?? That you need to wash your hands after touching them? And that they can shed lead-laced dust which may cover branches or shower gifts and the floor below the tree??!!? I didn't. How horrible to have such a happy thing for children the Christmas tree be contaminated with lead that could give them lead poisoning. Back to the store for our new tree! **upate** links for more info on lead in artificial trees: and. I did not know artificial trees have lead!! I am going to go read the boxes on mine!! How awful so what will you do for a tree? do the silver tinsel trees have lead? I have my grandmothers silver tree and I would hate to think it has lead too!! -Sandra Love your birdy! How kind of you to PIF. I would love to but it's crazy here and I am away in January with it being Summer here and school holiday time. Your buttons look great maybe someone hand pressed the machine so they are kind of hand made? lol! Hi. Heather! Long time since I've visited. but trying to catch up with you. I didn't know about the lead! Yikes! What a waste of your precious time and disappointment for the kids! :{ Can't wait to see the real thing once you finally can get to it. I still haven't forgotten our paper dress RR but in Jan or so... I'm off to Boston for Christmas with my little granddaughter! Love and hugs and happy holiday wishes. Your friend. Deb Hi Heather,Wow the things you learn at Xmas. Who knew about the trees. I thought the most toxic thing on my table is where the Christmas cards have sprinkled their glitter! I hate glitter on Christmas cards--but then I learned about the tree! Wow! The buttons and notes are worth buying. Most of the stuff I'm giving is hand made but I'm realistic too. Some people don't like the things that are homemade--no they want video cameras. MP3 players and the like. So in my book you are totally forgiven! Have a great Christmas! Moh this sounds like such a great concept but I won't be able to participate either. Money is so tight around these times which is a shame as it's such a great idea. Maybe another time =)Though you should be receiving from me sometime. It will probably be after christmas though. At least you bought mainly handmade. I sadly didn't but it can be so hard sometimes. Oh and most people in Australia use artificial trees. I just hope mine doesn't contain lead xox Hi Heather sorry we simply can't participate in a pay it forward right now we are still unpacking boxes from the move! Had no idea about the lead thanks for making us aware of it! Its crazy around here too! Jenn and Jacqui Hi Heather,Just wanted to tell you that hey.. the buttons.. I am sure you will use them to make something hand made so its ok..... you have to buy supplies in order to make an item handmade dont you? They are beautiful by the wayGIVE AWAY ON MY BLOG COMING SOONHUGSJO Gosh. Heather -- I have three huge boxes of vintage buttons in my sewing closet! My husband bought me a wall of buttons when an old fabric store went out of business over twenty years ago. One of the cards you bought -- I have about twenty sets of them. Hmm -- maybe I ought to think about selling some of this stuff soon. . Count me in on the Pay It Forward thing -- will post soon on my blog too. Kathy V in NM Heather... I love this whole PIF idea. Would love to participate but I am already doing a "giveaway" on my blog so I just don't know how much time I would have to make 3 more items. I hope that you find 3 people to take part in this for you. I am shocked to read about the toxic lead in Christmas trees! Geesh.. we've had our tree for YEARS. I guess it's too late to worry about it now. Who would have thought??? Pay it forward what a good idea! Looks like I'm a little late for sign up:(Thanks for the heads up on the Christmas trees. I never knew that but now I have a good reason for getting the real deal next year. (C)Jeweled Elegance LLC. Apart from her DVD's and the ABC Kids shows. Abby loves to watch Better Homes and Gardens. And not just the cooking part (cooking shows are another fav.) but all of it. She sits there watching it mesmerised taking it all in and asking me questions. Not a show that I would undergo thought she would have been interested in but she asks during the week when it ordain be on again and struggles and fights to stay up and watch it all even though she may be almost falling asleep watching it. It has been a favourite for a little while now. As I type she is watching it now. And taking over my sit!

"crumbly banana bread" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-20 05:06:27

Going clubbing with my girlfriend and her boyfriend was a lot of fun. I helped her appreciate her relationship while she helped me appreciate my singleton life. However the not so fun part is always the day after: a day long hang over on 2 hours of sleep and a sprang ankle from going crazy jumping over a articulate while drunk. I went through Sunday desire a zombie. No creative activities today I said to myself. Following a recipe is all that I could do. “Bananas are the king of fruits.” That was a lie from a Miyazaki anime that I can’t remember the name of. Bananas are my alleviate food. I almost always undergo bananas around the apartment. When Mom dropped off more this morning. I undergo an excess. Time for banana cover! I’ve been making banana breads for years but they were always somewhat unsatisfying. They were more desire banana cakes. I pondered why people called it a bread if it was so cakey. Just because it was a loaf? It finally dawned on me that you weren’t supposed to use a mixer to make banana breads. Today. I made my banana bread with the least amount of hand mixing possible. It turned out to be ameliorate in its less ameliorate form! Crumbly rustic and gooey with banana chunks. I’m not sure since when my pictures of food started to look prettier than the actual food. (By the way it’s so ironic to undergo the cover on my lemon displace cocktail coat. That drink got me in trouble last night I think hehe) I’ve gotten high praises for the banana bread today so I’m sharing the recipe from exceed Homes and Gardens: cover bottom and 1/2 inch up the sides of one 9×5x3-inch or two 7 1/2×3 1/2 x 2-inch loaf pans; set aside. Combine flour baking powder baking soda cinnamon nutmeg and 1/4 teaspoon salt. alter a come up in center of flour mixture; set aside. In a medium roll combine eggs bananas sugar and oil. Add egg mixture all at once to flour mixture. displace just until moistened (strike should be lumpy). change surface in nuts. Spoon strike into prepared pan(s. cook in a 350F oven for 55 to 60 minutes for 9×5x3 advance pa or 40 to 45 minutes for 7 1/2×3 1/2 x 2-inch pans or until a wooden toothpick inserted come center comes out clean (if necessary cover loosely with foil the measure 15 minutes of baking to prevent overbrowning). Cool in pan on a wire pace for 10 minutes. Remove from pan. alter completely on a equip rack. Wrap and store overnight before slicing. This morning I finished the big piece you gave me it was the “king of banana breads”. They are usually so dry this one was falling apart with deliciousness. Thanks Hao ! King of banana breads?!! LOL thanks! I gave the other half to Marsha and she said it’s almost gone. Hope this was good with your morning espresso.
