"Start to plan for the Home Theatre room" posted by ~Ray

NEW SURVEY: This weeks holiday recommendation survey is... What would be your recommendation for an "42 to 50-inch LCD TV"? Ok guys after reading most of the posts here my finger is getting itchy and I too am going to start planning on finishing my basement. I already asked one of my more handy friend to help me with this project now I need to turn thoughts into reality. But first. I really would like your opinions on how to divide the space I have. So here is the link of my whole basement layout. As you can see my choice of HT placement is somewhat limited. I am planning to put it right next to the Mechanical room. After some eyeball measurements the usable space is about 13x17x9. That corner is surrounded by concrete so it's very dark (ideal for HT?) Here is what some of my initial thoughts:- Moving the water heater towards the right end wall.- The front of the Theatre will be to the left wall.- Main door entrance will be the gap between the staircase and the concrete wall.- Use the under staircase area for equipment storage. Some concerns:- Still debating if I should have the main entrance in the front or at the back which means one has to walk through the mech room before entering the HT room.- Is my length long enough for stadium seating? What's the ideal screen size and distance to the first row of seats? And where I should mount the projector?- Since it's right next to the mechanical room what kinda of material should I consider to sound proof the room without getting too expensive?Any suggestions or recommendations is appreciated!thx,Gundamz So far I have research some cheap ways to build the walls of the HT. Double sheet rock with green glue on the middle. I would assume to use that for every wall in the room. One question is the floor is carpet enough for sound proofing? I also noticed people like to put a small window to the equipment room but I am afraid to frame a window and it will rattle during movies. Any ideas and comments is appreciated thx,GundamZ GundamZ,I think that you could have the screen wall towards the right and the door would be in the back that way the entrance wouldn't have to come through the equipment room. I didn't see a specific reason for the screen to be to the left but if so then you would probably need to enter from the equipment room due to the "false screen wall" if you are going to have one. It would take up part of your doorway if it is to the left. Stadium seating or "rockers" will work fine in this size theater. Depending on the projector screen size and personal preference you can have first row seats at about 9 feet. If you are thinking two rows your back row may be nearly against the wall which isn't the best acoustically but will work. Carpeting with a heavy pad works quite well for the acoustics but you may need to add bass traps etc. Ken king_arthur,When I was first planning for the screen position. I thought the screen would be better at the concrete wall. But since now I learned about the double sheetrock + green glue concepts. I can definitely put the screen on that wall. And make the entrance at the back. I think I am going with the 100" screen size but as for the projector. I have no idea what to get yet. As for the speakers. I currently has the Axiom Epic50 and Denon AVR2805 as receiver thx,Gundamz Yes and in addition to the DD GG wall you should use 1" Linacoustic to cover the whole screen wall which also helps with acoustics in the room. With my own theater. I cannot hear the speakers at the screen wall on the other side of that wall any easier than on the other side of any of the walls. In other words very little sound escapes the theater with any of the walls. Good luck and if you have questions. I will be glad to help where I can and I know many others will chime in as well. Hi,I'm new to the forum so first of all hello to everybody. I moved into a new house and have been working for the measure 1.5 years to get everything together including my living room that I installed to be a multi-purpose living dwell / home theatre. Here are some pics of how it turned out. This is the room in '"living-room-mode" This is in Theatre-mode !! The panneling can be folded away to the sides of the check. They are MDF painted in a very matte very very dark cook to avoid reflextions and comfort be classy.... The check is lightly curved to answer pincushioning. The check is a standard painted 1.20m x 2.60m drywall-element painted with about 6 layers of special "screen-paint". Notice on the conceive of above it is also tilted backwards slightly this is because the projector has to be relatively high against the ceiling and I don't have a lot of shift and keystone options on it. (I desperately need a new one !!!!! ) accept that is a sweet setup with the screen in-cognito desire that. Congrats. Would really take the prize if there was any to automate the panels. This speaker system in about 10 years old so I haven't had any luck finding help anywhere else. The three speakers do bring home the bacon together on FM channels so what input would you suggest?Fingers crossed and thanks in advance. "12-sided subwoofer is nerdiest home theater component ever" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-06 02:59:06

This might be the ultimate addition to any serious nerd's. Not only is it a ridiculous subwoofer with ten speakers angled in different directions but it's shaped like a 12-sided die. Yes it's the dorkiest shape in existence thanks to Dungeons & Dragons. Whether or not you like or dislike this thing should say a lot about how many girls you talked to in high educate. For nerds of the audiophile variety the sub pumps out 600 watts per driver for an impressive total of 6,000 watts of bass. That's a lot of bass. Despite the completely dorky cause it'll rattle more windows than the manliest of subwoofers if the specs are to be believed. And that's what really counts. — Adam Frucci Adam frucci you are such a conformist clean bag who knows nothing about the way people think at all. "Home Theatre: Logitech Harmony 890 Pro Review" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 16:34:38

Personally. I’ve been looking for a remote to hold back all the new devices in my home theater. I didn’t undergo to be any further than the Universal Remote. Its plethora of features makes up for its minor problems and earns this remote a displace in my entertainment center. Read more after the jump. The 890 Pro is part of flagship lie of universal remote controls. This lie has always received stellar reviews for their versatility and design. Albeit pricey if you have a large home theater to control this remote is a dream come adjust. First off let’s go away with setup. When you open the box you see the remote itself software a very vague step-by-step instruction summon a rechargeable battery. USB cord and charger. Of course when I started to try to evaluate out how to put in the battery. I ran into some severe difficulties. It turns out you have to touch drink in a specific displace while sliding the cover. This wasn’t at all documented. I was surprised to not find a booklet describing the remote’s capabilities but I suppose it is just a remote. Next comes the system setup. The software Logitech included with the remote itself wouldn’t adjust with my remote. A quick software upgrade fixed this but I would think the version of software that was bundled with the remote should work fine. After the remote was recognized and ready to receive instructions it was a breeze to setup. The ability to control multiple rooms is interesting although most likely unused by many. The nicest move of this remote is that it doesn’t just hold back devices but it performs activities. For example if you desire to play a DVD you simply touch a single button and it turns on the DVD player and TV and adjusts the TV to the correct input to compete the DVD. In my testing the device give for the remote is amazing. Logitech claims that it supports 175,000 different devices and I completely believe this be. I was very glad the remote worked with my Xbox 360 and controlled DVD playback perfectly. It also controls my DVD player and telecommunicate box flawlessly (and has a very nice add setup). In addition to the normal expected media devices with the remote’s RF capabilities it can also hold back lighting as well as fireplaces. These can be controlled as “Scenes” such as full lighten for normal dwell usage very soft light for watching movies and no light for when the room isn’t in use (or otherwise). Now for the remote itself. I let some relatives use the remote and they complained about simply one things. The buttons were too small. I can’t back up but accept. While some remotes have distinctly separated rubberized buttons the 890 Pro has small plastic closely-grouped buttons. However these buttons are backlit which makes them easier to read in any environment. The menu system of the remote has features that the remotes for the actual devices don’t have (such as one touch aspect ratio control). However it sometimes feels cumbersome to navigate the menus. The remote also has an assortment of other features such as when the remote is in the charger being able to display a custom slideshow. These pictures are displayed through the brilliant color LCD show which wakes up when you move the remote. One small problem that I discovered while using the remote is that on cause the remote ordain have issues while placed in the charger. Random beeping will become for about 10 seconds then stop. I have no idea what causes this but it’s just a small air I’ve discovered. Overall the remote has some small issues but if you are a home theater fanatic this remote is definitely for you. The fact that you can control 15 devices with a single remote is really phenomenal. Also it’s ability to create specific environments for your home theater is a very advanced feature. The hold back that comes with this remote ordain easily alter this the only remote you need for a while down the road.
