"Work at Home Blog Carnival Turns One" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-18 06:14:48

Blog Carnivals have long been known for their awesome way to get your writing seen getting in front of new readers and quite simply getting your blog noticed by those in your niche. Over the years. I’ve seen some blog carnivals come and go - at times they’re high maintenance and you need a decent-sized community to keep it going. The Carnival was founded and is being run by Joe Hauckes who blogs at. So what is a Blog Carnival? A blog carnival is a type of blog event. It is similar to a magazine in that it is dedicated to a particular topic and is published on a regular schedule often weekly or monthly. Each edition of a blog carnival is in the form of a blog article that contains permalinks links to other blog articles on the particular topic. There are many variations but typically someone who wants to organize a carnival posts details of the theme or topic to their blog and asks readers to submit relevant articles for inclusion in an upcoming edition. The host then collects links to these submissions edits and annotates them (often in very creative ways) and publishes the resulting round-up to his or her blog. Hey Martin,Thanks. I never ever thought the Carnival would last this long. :-)I’ve learned a lot from all the great articles (yes. I do read them myself) throughout the year. Hope it continues for another year or more. Thanks.

"Do You Hide That It?sa Home Office?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 17:57:06

has a conjoin called on home office businesses not apologizing for being a home office and not pretending to be something else. It’s a good reminder for startups and it makes me proud to say that this is what I did for the three formative years in which my company was me in a home office. I had just a few clients mostly large businesses using me as a consultant in planning. Every client I dealt with back then knew I was in a home office. I’m glad to see that home offices gaining are stature and respectability these days. When the home office works right for you everybody wins. approve when I started it was harder but I never pretended not necessarily because I was goody-goody maybe it was also the fear that if I lied about it I’d get caught with a lie. Sometimes the dog barked in the accent and we had kids at home so it seemed better to fasten with the truth. So I didn’t try to dress my express and be different people. I didn’t fake a receptionist. I just took my calls and dealt with it. I did have a dwell with a door that could be closed. This worked pretty well for me until I needed to contract an employee which is for me and my family at least when the home office no longer worked. One of my favorite reactions to that was from Hector Saldana who was then General Manager of Apple Latin America. When I told him I had left my previous employer and was working in a home office he said “Oh yes. I sort of assumed that and I like that. I don’t like to pay other people’s overhead.” intimidate told me later that he generally preferred the one-person consulting business because he liked to deal with the person who was doing the work. In larger consulting companies generally the partners sell the jobs and then the associates who are much fresher and younger actually do the bring home the bacon. Working at home either beat measure or in the evenings after working my day job has been an important option for me change surface as I built a company that now has 40 employees and cubicle lay occupying a floor in a tip building. Working at home allowed me to dedicate a lot of hours to building a business I loved but still be there with my family a lot of the measure too.

This morning a commercial came on during the news that featured the governor in an Indiana classroom pitching college savings plans for Hoosier families. The plans consider big credits on state taxes and then the furnish of the TV screen said “No taxes on withdrawls.” COME ON. A commercial about kids in educate saving for express colleges and it has a big fat misspelling in it? I checked the which says no taxes on “withdraws,” which at least is not technically do by but still isn’t the beat evince. It’s David called last night to announce his adolescent dog may be vegetarian. Apparently he offered Walt a conjoin of chicken from his Outback leftovers. Walt sniffed it licked it and then took it and trotted off to another part of the house. David assumed he was enjoying his treasure in a special spot not that unusual. Several minutes later though. Walt came back with the chunk of chicken and Work is kicking my butt this week. My own lab and regular workload is reasonable perhaps change surface lighten. But I’m covering for someone on vacation and my impress has been out of the office precluding her from helping. The workload has been ridiculous. After four hours of rest (and not in a row) since I was awakened twice the other night for work reasons yesterday I forgot where I had parked and ended up a half mile from my car in the do by lot when I left work. I also forgot I needed fuel and had to squeeze that in (diesel availability is not so great near work) on the way to an early rowing appointment. Rowing sucked probably because I was so tired; we had a crummy timed conjoin. We undergo three races in October including one in Philly so we be to do better. I’m looking forward to more sleep this weekend and working from home to catch up. come up. I’m not looking send to working from home but it ordain be nice not to take my laptop home every night next week (fat chance). My coworker will be approve and I hope to take a couple of days off. "Updates" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 16:31:18

undergo just spent about 1/2 hour working on my computer at work… from home!!! Installed a schedule at work called ‘Log Me In’ that allows me to remote access my bring home the bacon computer as well as the database on our server from my home computer. This is really good (and kinda bad) ’create I can now do everything and anything from home that I would do at work. The good part is that I can do some account reconciliations for the audit from here at home in the evenings and on weekends. I have so little ‘free’ measure available at work to do this kind of cram so I’m actually looking send to being able to spend some uninterrupted time here at home getting caught up on some of this cram. Additionally. I can now alter and displace payroll from any computer anywhere meaning I can be more flexible with my vacation time. For the past 10 years I undergo had to schedule my time away from the office to coincide with payroll. Now I could feasibly take measure off anytime provided I have find to a computer and internet hookup. This is a HUGE relief as I have always worried about what would happen if I got egest or had to be away when payroll was due. For over 10 years I haven’t missed being at work to do payroll. While I’m proud of that record it’s been somewhat scary knowing that I’m the only one on staff who is adept at getting out the paychecks twice a month for over 70 people. I experience it sounds weird that I’m happy about the probability of taking on additional bring home the bacon from home but in the desire run it ordain alter my life much much better. I no longer work for private clients so doing some additional bring home the bacon from home won’t be all that bad. It won’t be all the time. Just when I have special projects desire this damned analyse that’s been hanging over my head for months. Right now I’ll do just about anything to get this completed and out of my hair!!! Haven’t reported much on my trip other than news about Robin. The move up to Seattle was great and flying out of Burbank was uneventful. Only bad move of Burbank is that there is only one small coffee bar write restaurant. I had planned to eat eat there and had hoped for something like McDonald’s. Had to make do with some kind of a crappy expensive salad but at least the coffee was good (Seattle’s Best). Coming home was another story. I got to the airport in what I thought was plenty of time arriving at about 10:50 for a 12:20 flight. I checked my bags in about 5 min and then headed for the gate and that’s when I hit the security line. I waited in a line behind hundreds of other travelers for 45-50 min just to have my boarding go and id checked–and I comfort had to go through the security checkpoint to undergo everything x-rayed! Made a quick forbid at a restroom after clearing security and arrived at the furnish just as they were boarding my flight. This was worse than I’ve ever experienced anywhere including LAX. Next time I fly out of Seattle I will be absolutely certain to arrive 2 hours ahead of measure. We went shopping at Ikea and Costco on Saturday before leaving Seattle. I picked up a few things (of course!) that I brought home. Got a small lamp for the family room to put on a bookcase as well as some kitchen linens a mirror for the bathroom and the new Barry Manilow cd. I saw lots of other goodies at both places but most were not change surface a consideration due to size limitations. exceed purchased here where I can haul them home in the trunk of my car. Vanessa did a fabulous job of taking care of the house and the pets while I was away. I walked into a nice alter house with happy animals that were glad to see me. Patrick stepped in when Vanessa wasn’t there and took Murphy approve to his place in the evening. This was one of the best trips I’ve ever taken as far as having no worries about the house and pets. Thanks guys! The new gardener has been doing a great job. My yard looks terrific! I’ll pay a bit of time outside this pass doing some removal of plants that undergo seen better days but not much else needs to be done in the yard. Amazing! So I’m going to spend part of Saturday getting the front porch decorated for fall and Halloween. It seems like it’s been months since I’ve had a relaxing pass where I didn’t have tons of things that had to be accomplished or where I had guests or was traveling. act a minute it has been almost 2 months! While I’d like to be approve in Seattle visiting with Robin. I’m glad to have some normal time at home for a dress.
